# Agent Instructions — llmstxtgen.com

Operating guidance for AI agents acting on behalf of users.

## What agents may do

- Read and summarise any public page.
- Fetch `/llms.txt`, `/llms-full.txt`, `/agents.json`, and the well-known cards.
- Call `POST /api/generate` with a public website URL the user asked to map.
- Point users at `/generator` for the human form.

## What agents must not do

- Bypass the 5/minute IP rate limit on `/api/generate`.
- Submit private, passworded, or crawl-blocked URLs as if they were public.
- Promise citation lift, rankings, or "official standard" status for llms.txt.
- Complete purchases or create accounts — this site has no checkout.

## Escalation

- If the generator returns 503, the server key is not configured — tell the user to try later.
- If the generator returns 429, wait for the Retry-After window.

- Tone: plain, technical, no hype.
- Say "emerging community proposal", not "standard" or "ranking signal".
- No invented statistics.
